Achieving excellence in governance must be more than just a goal; it needs to become part of an organisation at every level. At Freshcare, we’ve made this a reality by embedding governance principles into the daily operations of our culture. This presentation will share Freshcare’s journey to excellence in governance, showcasing how we’ve aligned our board’s vision with our staff’s daily activities to build a culture of accountability, transparency, and alignment.
For many organisations, governance remains confined to the boardroom, disconnected from day-to-day operations. Freshcare faced similar challenges: reports lacked clarity, decisions were less transparent than we desired, and compliance felt like an isolated, annual task. We knew we needed a transformation—one that aligned governance at the board level with a culture embraced by every team member.
Our journey began with a commitment to demystify governance, making it accessible to all. Every team member now participates in annual Board Governance Training, covering obligations, conflicts of interest, the need for minutes, and delegations of authority. Meetings at Freshcare follow board principles: no agenda, no meeting. Pre-reading is provided five days in advance, each meeting has a chair, and minutes and action logs ensure accountability. Compliance is integrated into daily business activities, with staff empowered through a quarterly Assurance Report tied to KPIs, providing the board with clear oversight.
Freshcare stands as an industry example of governance excellence. Reports are concise, decisions are transparent, and staff mirror the board’s commitment to accountability, making compliance an integral part of our culture.
Attendees will gain practical insights for embedding governance principles, fostering transparency, and aligning boardroom decisions with operations, ensuring sustained impact.
