Increasing Governance Requirements, Director Liability and Quality
Panel Discussion
Aaron Goldsworthy (Moderator), Jonathan Teh, Gail Murray
Better Boards is pleased to present "Increasing Governance Requirements, Director Liability and Quality" led by Aaron Goldsworthy, Senior Consultant @ Australian Strategic Services with Jonathan Teh, Gail Murray.
Directors are increasingly feeling the pressure of increased expectations and personal burden. There is a greater variety of risks that directors are expected to forsee, and the community and stakeholders expect more transparency and accountability. Regulation is increasing, regulators have sharpened their focus on the role of boards, and more personal responsibility being imposed on directors.
Where once governance had a distinct oversight and financial focus, today it is expected that directors take a whole-of-organisation view, with quality, customer satisfaction, safety, culture and more, all part of the board’s remit.
In this 90-minute session, moderator and governance advisor Aaron Goldsworthy is joined by panelists Jonathan Teh, Principal at Russell Kennedy Lawyers, and Gail Murray, Principal Broker at Gallagher Risk & Insurance Broking, to explore the trend of increasing expectations on directors, the impact on director obligations and liability, and how directors and those who support them should respond.
The session will cover:
- An overview of changing nature of governance;
- Key examples of regulatory changes and increased expectations on directors;
- The safety and quality of services as a board-level responsibility;
- Expanding foreseeable risks, eg climate, cyber and work health and safety obligations;
- Setting and monitoring culture;
- Client and stakeholder engagement and voices in decision-making;
- Impact on board composition;
- Insurance;
- Practical responses you can take.
