Governance Training for Non-Profit Boards
Governance is a leadership process, and to function effectively, individual board members and boards as a whole, should have a clear understanding not only of their governance roles and responsibilities but also how to practically and correctly apply them within a leadership framework or context. Thus regular governance training is essential for non-profit boards. Taking on a role as a board or committee member can sound relatively straight forward, but it could be interesting to note how many members of your board can clearly and concisely describe their actual governance roles and responsibilities.
Better Boards Conference 2010
The 5th Australasian Better Boards Conference, held at The Novotel Sydney Brighton Beach in July of this year, was a highly engaging and successful event with delegates from across Australia and New Zealand filling the venue to capacity. Thirty speakers offered their valuable knowledge and insights on fundamental topics which included practical tips, tools and discussions around governance, leadership, legal matters, sustainability, risk management, strategic planning, project management, nonprofit research and their applications within nonprofit organisations.
Plato’s Cave: Unchaining the NFP Sector
The NFP sector has long-held a place in the landscape of Australia’s growth based on its philosophies and beliefs. That place, whilst pivotal, has been held based on a reality that is both static and tenuous. We must create a new reality; a reality that is market-driven, client-centred and assertive. Using Plato’s Allegory, this presentation challenges participants to reflect upon the chains that hold their organisation captive. It will facilitate an exploration of a new reality (including mission, visions and values) and evoke an assertive, respectful path to shifting mindsets and operational structures within the sector.
